Audio: In the first week or two following a stroke the
orthoptist will assess the patient for presence of an
ocular condition, diagnosis of the type of ocular
condition and whether the ocular defects are due to
the recent stroke or pre-existing pathology.

Audio: To determine presence of any ocular related
signs and symptoms the Orthoptist will test the
patient’s visual acuity to determine presence of any
visual loss, cover test and ocular movements to
assess for ocular misalignment and diplopia (or
double vision), visual fields by confrontation to
determine presence of any field loss such as a
hemianopia and perform tests of visual perception
to determine presence of any visual neglect, visual
agnosia or hallucinations.
